ABOUT RATA

Rata Communications is a platform for Indigenous voices — created by community, for community to share knowledge, stories, and lived experiences with authenticity. integrity, and purpose.

Across the Pacific and beyond, Indigenous peoples carry deep histories, enduring cultures, and a shared commitment to self-determination. Yet too often, these voices are underrepresented, misunderstood, or spoken for by others. Rata exists to change that.

Here, Indigenous communities connect as equals to communicate, collaborate, and strengthen one another through shared understanding. It is a space for truth-telling. cultural continuity, and collective awareness -where knowledge is respected, voices are heard, and stories are told by those who live them.

Rata is more than a platform; it is a network of connection. Through communication, we build solidarity. Through solidarity, we strengthen our pathways forward.

The name Rata, meaning "smoke" in the Anaiwan language, reflects an ancient method of communication a signal sent across distance to share knowledge, warn of danger, and bring people together. As expressed by RATA founders Uncle (Coco) Wayne Wharton, it is a reminder that communication has always been central to survival, awareness, and unity.

In that spirit, Rata continues this tradition carrying messages across oceans and generations guided by those who came before and grounded in responsibility to those who follow.
